SENNEBOGEN Foundation donates 10,000 euros for children in Nepal
The SENNEBOGEN Foundation is supporting emergency relief for children in Nepal with a donation of 10,000 euros. The funds will go to the non-profit organisation ASHA for Children Deutschland e. V., which provides children affected by the devastating flood disaster with protection, care and long-term prospects.
Support for ASHA for Children following devastating flood disaster - public urged to make further donations
On the morning of 26 August 2026, a combined rockfall and glacier collapse occurred in the border region between Nepal and Tibet, including on Langtang Lirung. The falling masses of rock and ice triggered a huge flood wave. In the Trishuli River valley and the districts of Rasuwa and Nuwakot, entire villages were swept away by mud and water. Numerous bridges and roads were destroyed, while many people lost their lives or remain missing.
In addition to causing widespread destruction, the disaster has brought countless personal tragedies. Many families lost their homes, while dozens of children were orphaned and urgently require protection, care and long-term support.
Hope and prospects for disadvantaged children
ASHA for Children is a non-profit aid organisation that offers disadvantaged children in Nepal - particularly those from slums or difficult backgrounds - new prospects through education and reliable care. The name "ASHA" comes from Sanskrit and means "hope".
The consequences of the flash flood have significantly increased the organisation's responsibilities. ASHA is currently caring for 21 orphaned and, in some cases, severely traumatised children who have found a new home in a school that was converted at short notice. Their number continues to grow. Local authorities estimate that as many as 160 children may have lost both parents in the disaster.
ASHA for Children also aims to provide these children with a safe home and long-term prospects. Its support includes early childhood education, schooling, daily meals, medical care and clothing, as well as language and music programmes. The aim is to give the children the foundations for an independent life despite their traumatic experiences.
Symbolic cheque presentation in Wiesent
The SENNEBOGEN Foundation is providing the initiative with immediate support of 10,000 euros. Walter Sennebogen, representing the Foundation Board, personally presented the symbolic donation cheque to Heri Wirth, founder and patron of ASHA for Children, at the Nepal Himalaya Pavilion in Wiesent on Friday, 11 September 2026.
The donation will help the SENNEBOGEN Foundation ensure that the affected children have accommodation and essential care. Items needed include beds, bed linen, storage facilities, cooking utensils and sanitary facilities. The children are also to receive nutritious meals, medical and psychosocial care, as well as continued access to education and recreational activities.
As the children's long-term care requires additional funding, ASHA for Children is seeking further donations.
